Reflective Evening Prayer continues to thrive on Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm. It is a time to connect with others, share our week and worship in an alternative style. We allow time for silence, reflection and sharing thoughts and ideas about the readings.
We worship in our new upholstered chairs, gathered in the front of the church by the altar with the Baptismal font including the circle. We light candles and keep the format informal.
We use traditional and non-traditional worship resources. Sometimes we follow the Evening Prayer service in the Book of Common Prayer, but more recently we have been branching out to other formats, such as the New Zealand Book of Common Prayer and A Prayer Book for the 21st Century.
We involve everyone who would like to participate in the service, usually by having all do some kind of reading. Folks are also welcome to come and just enjoy the service without taking on a role. We incorporate lots of silence so that there is plenty of time for reflection and prayer.
We always try to sing a song! We are breaking out of the traditional hymnal and trying new (and old) songs from other resources, including Taize, chanting and folk songs. It's the effort that matters, not the quality!
We invite anyone, from any faith tradition to join us. We are striving to make this a time in the middle of the week to stop and be silent and reflect during our busy lives.
Hope to see you on Wednesdays at 5:30pm!
