Looking Ahead to Holy Week – April 5-11
Dear Friends,
Holy Week is the most significant part of the Christian calendar and the church has created wonderful services to help us travel - through our worship - the last days of Christ’s life.
As you know, St. Mary’s is a small congregation and we usually link with our ecumenical sisters and brothers for services during Holy Week. As well, we are part of the Southeast Deanery of the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont and we want you to know about the service schedule of our closest Episcopal neighbor, St. Michael’s, at the corner of Rt. 5 and Bradley Avenue just north of the town of Brattleboro and at www.stmichaels-vt.org .
However you are able, please find a moment to invite God into your life during this Holy Week and we look forward to celebrating the wonder of Easter with you on Sunday, April 12th.
Wilmington - St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and Ecumenical Services
Palm Sunday, April 5th – 10:30am Worship Palms, Procession with dramatic Passion Reading & Eucharist
Maundy Thursday, April 9th
7pm Tenebrae Service at the Wilmington Congregational Church
Good Friday, April 10rd
3:00pm Stations of the Cross at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church
4:30pm Good Friday Meditations and Silent Prayer at St. Mary’s
On the half-hour (4:30pm, 5:00pm and 5:30pm) we will offer a 10 minute meditation on the Cross and Passion of Christ followed by 20 minutes of silence for reflection and prayer. We’ll end with a brief closing worship at 5:50pm in time for those who wish to go to St. Michael’s. This year’s meditation leaders include Lorrie Scime and Peter Johnson.
Holy Saturday, April 11th
10:30am Holy Saturday Liturgy at St. Mary’s
(followed by cleaning and setting up for Easter Sunday – come help!)
Easter Sunday, April 12th
10:30am Festive Eucharist with special music, a trumpeter and the St. Mary’s Singers.
NOTE: Easter Flowers and Music – If you would like to make a “Thanksgiving” or “Memorial” offering to help pay for special flowers and music for our Easter celebration please let us know by, Tuesday, April 7th (electronically) or use the offering envelopes in back of the church this Sunday. Thank you.
